Songaz presents in Electronic Fields a performance that combines images and sounds of his own authorship, developing a unique and unrepeatable show that, in addition, has a critical approach to the reality of Extremadura.
Songaz’s audiovisual performance is inspired by the book of the same title, Extremadura Saqueada. Recursos naturales y autonomía regional (Sacked Extremadura. Natural Resources and Regional Autonomy, Editorial Ruedo Ibérico, 1978), coordinated by Mario Gaviria, José Manuel Naredo and Juan Senra, and currently available online.
This book, considered a classic and a reference for critical voices in Extremadura for generations, pointed out the disastrous consequences of ferocious extractivism, defined by the installation of polluting and ‘eroding’ industries, such as mining, energy plundering, the imposition of monocultures and other realities that still occupy and worry numerous citizen groups in the region.
Songaz makes electronic and atmospheric music, composed of field recordings and DIY (do it yourself) tools, made with free software. All of this culminates in a distinctive sound of their own, combining elements of fourth world, dub and ambient. Through an experimental approach to production and composition, the results are often a mix of abstract soundscapes, rich in detail, infused with beautiful harmonies, melodies and rhythms created by pushing the CPU to the max.
