BSM_MTHC [bionic sound machine | more than human composer]. Noish

  • BSM_MTHC [bionic sound machine | more than human composer] will be on show at the Complejo Cultural La Merced (Llerena), from 27/10 to 5/11.

BSM_MTHC [bionic sound machine | more than human composer], the piece that Óscar Martín aka Noish (Winterthur, Switzerland) presents in Electronic Fields 2023, is based on the idea of creating a bioartificial ecosystem that evolves symbiotically, generating a non-human sound composer.

The bio/machine proposes an alliance between ‘intelligences’ of different nature, a chimeric device, formed by a ‘biological intelligence’ (Physarum polycephalum), and an artificial ‘intelligence’, based on genetic algorithms, which, in a situation of exchange and mutual influence in their evolution, allow us to discover new emerging perceptible behaviours, through light and sound patterns, as well as their organisation in time.

About Óscar Martín aka Noish

Óscar Martín holds a degree in Fine Arts and specialises in sculpture and new media (UPV). Experimental musician, artist and independent researcher, he is based in Barcelona. He works in the field of algorithmic and generative poetics, investigating emergence and self-organisation in complex systems with non-human agents. His artistic practice could be understood as a polyhedral knowledge device, in which art, science and technology converge and hybridise from an unorthodox, critical and experimental approach.

The work of Óscar Martín aka Noish has been shown at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid), Alhóndiga (Bilbao), Ars Electrónica Garden (Barcelona), CentroCentro (Madrid), La Casa Encendida (Madrid), ISEA2022 (Barcelona), Sónar (Barcelona), Piksel (Norway), Festival de la Imagen (Colombia) and ElectroPiksel (France), among others.
